Simple Pleasures

I have this plaque in my bathroom, that I have read everyday since 1997,the year my beautiful sister in law Carolyn who was only 39 years old,and in the prime of her life, went to be with her Lord and Savior.

It reminds me daily to enjoy life and find pleasure in the simple things. It goes like this...

Living big & joyful & content is almost always the result of our finding pleasure in the simple things.
by H.Jackson Brown,Jr.

Begin each day with your favourite music~ Always have something beautiful in sight, even if it's just a daisy in a jelly glass~ Take off your watch while on vacation and on weekends~ Treat yourself to a massage~ Re-read your favourite book~ Take a nap on Sunday afternoons~ Learn to make bread~ Surprise loved ones with little unexpected gifts~ Type out your favourite quotation and put it where you can see it everyday~ Never miss an opportunity to ride on a roller coaster~ Never pass up a chance to be in a parade~ Buy a box of animal cookies and share them with a child~ Compliment three people everyday~ Leave a quarter in the change slot of a pay phone.Somebody always checks~ Keep a special notebook.Every night before going to bed, write down something beautiful that you saw during the day~ Kiss slowly~ Forgive quickly~ Call three friends on Thanksgiving and tell them how thankful you are for their friendship~ Put a lot of little marsh mellows in your hot chocolate~ Take some silly photos of yourself and a friend in an instant photo booth~ Wade in a creek every chance you get~ Give a popular children's book to a youngster after reading it yourself~Hold puppies, kittens, and babies any time you get a chance~ Vacuum while barefoot~ Carry a kite in the trunk for windy spring days~ Stop at a playground and try out the swings and slide~ Memorize your favourite love poem~ Buy and inflatable pillow for your bathtub~ Never miss an opportunity to sleep on a screened in porch~ Never regret any money spent on books or fresh flowers~ Never refuse a holiday dessert~ Believe in miracles but don't depend on them~ Use a picture of a loved one as a bookmark~ Hold your child's hand every chance you get~ Remember the three universal healers: calamine lotion, warm oatmeal, and hugs~ Say something positive as early as possible every day~ Don't forget that all important truths are simple.

I would like to add to that,Sit on the end of a dock with your feet dangling in the water and watch the sunset with someone you love when ever you get the chance!! And dance in the rain!!

Losing someone you love really makes you stop and think..Life is too short and it's going to pass us by unless we take the time to enjoy everything it has to offer..especially the Simple Things

Beautiful tribute to your sister in law! Very sad though....too young! Very nice words and we should all live each day like it's our last!

I can only imagine how much you miss her. It is beautiful how you are keeping her memory alive and reminding us all to embrace life each day.
