Last summer my niece Brittany married her true love of 9 years Mark Bragg.

Mark is a 7th generation farmer, his family has lived in Bowmanville since the early 1900's.The house has seen many changes over the years, and the newlyweds wanted to make it their own. Brittany's eye for good classy taste and Marks handyman skills make a great team when it comes to DIY.
In the past year they have taken the house outta the 1990's cutesy country style to a more traditional look, with a touch of modern accents. And the place just shines,it has been brought it back to life, back to the way the house may have looked in the 1920's-1940's very classic and sophisticated.
I believe a house tells you how it wants to be decorated,if you keep in character with the era you cannot go wrong! I think they have done an awesome job on a very minimal budget. With some help from family,(we scrapped dusty rose stubborn wallpaper for hours)and my sister is a pro wall paperer.

Green Acres is the place for them!! |
|
this is the year to plant sunflowers, they rotate the crops on the 500 plus acres every year.It was stunning!! |
I wish I had some before shots to share..I will try for that, but trust me when I tell you that although it may have been top of the line in the eighties and ninety's it was long overdue for some change. Brittany say's "just because we live on a farm doesn't mean I am going to border the house with barns, cows, and sunflowers,I am a teacher and I am NOT going to put ABC's and 123's everywhere!" that is so funny, but true!

This is the Living Room,it was wallpapered in dusty rose and baby blue,6 of us scraped for hours to remove the ahem nastiness, they re wallpapered one wall as a focal point in a brocade and painted the other walls. The trim and floors are off limits to change. Mark loves wood natural..no painting it out!!(for now) |
|
Brittany wanted to paint the mantle but Mark said NO!! | | | |

these windows have recently been lavished with curtains on the sides |

this was once the formal Dining Room,They decided to make it a Family Room as the kitchen is big enough for the dining suite. Brit had these old newspaper ads framed for Marks birthday, they were found in the walls of the house..how cool is that!

this kitchen went from high end 1970's to 2010 with just some paint for the cupboards and the counter top! (and a new light fixture)They wanted to keep the original dining suite and the kitchen could handle it,so they purchased these modern chairs on kijiji for $59 each delivered,to give it an update!
