I Love Being my OWN Boss!!!

It's 9:37 pm and I am still at work, well not still I left a 5:30,went grocery shopping, took the goods home...cheated and made salad (and bologna sandwich) for dinner...and by choice came back to my shop...brought the dog, hubby and 11 year old,her homework and some water bottles..all day I have to constantly rearrange and make things look pretty after my customers rummage and ruin my displays :P Just when I get it all nice something sells..and I have to find places for everything AGAIN..After the past weekend it looked like a bomb went off in here..with Maple Fest coming this Saturday I had to fill up the empty spaces and put together some vignettes..all while listening to American Idol (Casey all the way..wish I could vote from Canada)and Sarah's House (another amazing episode, this week was the "family bathroom" I was excited to see my dressers used as vanity's,not MY actual dressers but we have the same one here for sale for $295 not $700).Yes I have a TV at work...it's great I can catch Y&R and I am amazed at how many of my customers follow it.
I just had to share these great chairs I got at a house call for $10 each!!(he paid $89 each at Home Depot if   I need more) all they needed was a good wipe down (dog hair)
I have wanted to mix in some modern chairs with our harvest table for the dining room..he only had 4 so I will use a bench for the other side and resell the chairs we have now!! It's all part of the disease!
Love it then sell it!!!
Anyway I am being told I HAVE to go home now...off to the big city of  Toronto tomorrow for the day to visit my fav wholesalers for Saturday's SALE!!

Country Living May 2010

I love opening the mailbox to find my Bible (as my kids call it) Country Living magazine! I have been savoring every page(well except for all those advertisements! can't they put them all together at the back?
Regardless, this month is no disappointment and has given me great inspiration for our master bedroom addition,we are aprox. $600 away from finishing this addition(now into its second year),that is if we drywall the walls..but I am holding out for wood walls...my husband says wood ceiling? wood floors? AND wood walls?? and I say "YES!! what's your point?" here's what I will be pinning up on the studs for him to see I'm not "over doing the wood thing!"
There is a Martha's Vineyard cottage to die for!  pages 86-93 Guess what...wood ceiling, wood floors AND wood walls!! :))

A Home Away from Home pages 101-105 is a feature on a Catskill's Farmhouse transformed into into a gem of a guest cottage!"

If you still need more FIX there's Rustic Revival pages106-113
This is an issue NOT to miss...there is also a guide to America's Best Antiques Shows
happy reading! Check out the  Country Living website for more great decorating tips, recipes and sooo much more!!

Gotta love auctions..especially ones that have you running from room to room trying to keep up with three auctioneers at the same time...last nights was no exception, it was packed full of great stuff! Best of all made a new contact and ended up on a road trip after that took us till midnight! Here are some highlights from the night!

A SWEET corner cupboard only about 5 ft tall

Back at the outhouse...things are piling up...

My husband recently surprised me with the most original gift EVER!! an OUTHOUSE! (see my prior post)
Paul and his new best friend Jim (newly nicknamed Sanford and Son even though they are close in age)  have been working like dogs at a century old farm.

The owners have had them boarding the place up to discourage the kids from coming in as it has pretty much collapsed due to the roof not being maintained :(
It would have been a good one to relocate had the money been spent to protect the insides.
Never the less they are salvaging everything they can from doors, windows with original shutters and hardware intact, the entrance way will also be salvaged but is actually holding the front of the house up for now...yikes
They are in the process of dismantling the 150 year old (post and beam, pegged together) barn and they will spend the better part of the next month or more rebuilding it on Jim's family farm. Nothing is being burnt or thrown away,we see the beauty in all of it,even the scrap metal has been recycled.
(Is it just me or does the light coming through the barn boards just give you the best feeling?)

Sanford and Son are hilarious they are like two little kids,up early every morning and there till dusk every night playing in the dirt for the past few weeks..they both have the same interest, and respect, for preserving what "once was" and reusing what ever they can on their own farms. This is truly a labor of love! (but I have upped the life insurance :P)
The outhouse Paul got for me was one of two on the property, Jim got the newer 1920's model...LOL
They have literally risked their lives going into this place as the roof  has collapsed on one side and therefore the bedroom floor is in the living room, the living room floor along with the oak fireplace mantle is in the basement.
There is one beam from the front door to the back summer kitchen which they could walk back and forth on to remove what is left in the house, including iron beds complete with bedding and newspapers dating to the 1930's between the sheets for extra insulation. The upstairs beds had to come out though the windows.
There was once a large pantry cupboard built into the wall which has mysteriously disappeared :S and traces of old wall hanging oil lamps which too have been taking by aliens I suppose.
There greatest fun so far was finding this 1940 Chevrolet 1 1/2 ton flatbed pickup truck in the garage, which was parked there in 1952. It has been taken to be restored to its original glory and will be in future Bowmanville parades.

Treasures in the attic have also been rescued, which I will have pictures of in the near future.
This old pump will be a beautiful feature in our garden for many years to come...a nice piece of local history.

the hay wagon is still being negotiated and may come down to an old fashioned flip of a coin (anyone have a double sided coin I can borrow? ;)

This door will be reused, along with the others inside

how about this for a security system?

Hope you enjoyed this trip down on the farm, way back in time, when neighbours waved, and kids played happily outside, and Mom's got to stay home and bake pies...(yeah right)
