Oh Canada :) & Oh HST :(

Tomorrow Canadians will be celebrating our great country's 143rd birthday.
Wikipedia says..
Canada Day (French: Fête du Canada), formerly Dominion Day (French: Le Jour de la Confédération), is Canada's national day, a federal statutory holiday celebrating the anniversary of the July 1, 1867, enactment of the British North America Act (today called the Constitution Act, 1867), which united two British colonies and a province of the British Empire into a single country called Canada. Canada Day observances take place throughout Canada as well as internationally.

Says Premier Dalton McGuinty:
“To create more jobs, top economists agree the single most important thing we can do is adopt the HST. It reduces costs for employers by billions of dollars, money they can now invest in new equipment, new machinery and new plants. It will create hundreds of thousands of new jobs.” (right ;S)

Ironically the HST (13% tax grab)comes into effect for Ontario and British Columbia on this day starting tomorrow.
Well we are not letting it rain on our parade..our shop is still going to celebrate Canada Day as usual! We're CLOSED!!! and heading for the beach!! so sorry Mr. McGuinty NO HST from us tomorrow!!

Vintage Inspired Designs by A.C.T

We have been carrying these "vintage inspired" one of a kind fashions for over a year now and they have been selling as fast as we can get them in. The designer is a very talented young woman named Ashley, she has a great eye for design and sews her own pieces. Here are the items that we currently have in stock. She also is happy to do custom work. My fav is the beach jumpsuit,so young and fun!

this weekends new "old" finds

This weekends finds consist of two small oval braided rugs,a checkered mat,an enamel pail, candlestick lamp, antique quilt, chrome birdie, heavy ladle,6 pewter teaspoons,6 pewter tablespoons, pewter cream and sugar, arched mirror, tool caddy,an early highchair in original paint,a small desk with drawer, small primitive table, plate rack, and 5 early chairs. Also a cool fish carved in 1994,and a woodbox with a shelf (perfect for shoes)
I can just imagine what we missed out on...the sale was long over when we got there, but then the price was right!!

We definitely scored some amazing finds Saturday night, after working till almost 7pm!Some things have made it to the shop others are still at home..All items came from the same house,it was a 25 year collection. More pieces coming soon!stay tuned...we also had to say goodbye to a piece I didn't care if I ever sold. This seems to be the hardest part for me,the poor couple that bought this corner cupboard we're quizzed as if they were adopting my baby,(where's it going?what are you planning to do with it?and will you be cutting, painting or even worse stripping it?)..I have to know that my favourites are going to a good home, and in this case it went to a better place,a gorgeous century home on Ontario Street (still in Bowmanville),they are using it in their front entrance, for storage, and leaving it as is...phew..Perhaps I will have to quit buying only what I love....nah...love it and leave it..something better always comes along..and besides I do have bills to pay this isn't just a hobby LOL :P
